In March, I was lucky enough to travel to Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, and Denmark to be precise) for a vacation with my lovely wife. When spending some time relaxing, which wasn’t too often on this trip, I began tinkering with a game idea about vikings.
Now, about a month and a half later, I am waiting for the prototype of the semi-finished game to arrive for further play-testing. The game is called… rather bluntly…
“Viking Dice”
Viking Dice is push-your-luck / dice management game. If I had to make a quick comparison, I’d say it’s similar in mechanics to King of Tokyo. In Viking Dice, you represent a band of vikings trying to gather as much gold over the course of three journeys. Each player starts with a boat and 3 vikings. On each turn the player will roll a set of 5 dice and deal with the various results marked on each dice.
Players have to decide to stay at sea trying to collect more treasure, or return home to secure their ill-gotten gold. Being at sea has its risks… raids, storms, watchful guards, and even Sea Monsters stand in your way. Sink before retuning home, and you lose all the treasure you’ve acquired along the way. The player with the most treasure secure at home after three journeys (successful or not) wins the game!
I wasn’t planning on this being my first game, but the idea came together very quickly. Hopefully play-testing will go smoothly and I can start moving forward on actual production and marketing.
I look forward to sharing more about this game in the next few days. Thanks for reading!
